Daniel Levenson writes gripping neo-noir. Inspired by the likes of Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, and Elmore Leonard, Levenson’s work explores the tensions between justice and mercy, virtue and vice, and the innocence and the guilt that resides in us all. There are characters in smoky rooms of iniquity: from the bribable politician to the self-righteous sinner. When the police are not overwhelmed by crime or bogged down by bureaucracy, they are tempted by corruption. Levenson’s stories take place in a world of smoke and shadows, but also of stark black and white. After all, there would be no shadows if there was no light, and even a small flame burns bright against the darkness.
